Read this first to get the best results from your service

Before your wax:

  • Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long. About two weeks without shaving.

  • Skip the lotion. Don't apply creams, lotions or gels to the area that will be waxed the day of your appointment.

  • Tanning before your wax can cause the skin to lift. Avoid tanning 24 hours before or after your treatment.

  • To reduce discomfort, take an aspirin or ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. Take it easy on the caffeine as well.

  • Wear comfy underwear. Super tight clothing can irritate your freshly waxed skin.

  • For best results use a daily moisturizer and exfoliate 2-3 times per week. Dry skin can cause hair breakage during a wax. Just remember: do not moisturize or exfoliate the day of treatment. The day before? Go for it!

After your wax:

  • Do not use any products on the waxed area until the following day.

  • Keep follicles clean by showering immediately after exercise.

  • No swimming pool, hot tub or sauna activity for 24 hours after your wax. These activities encourage bacterial growth.

  • Moisturize daily.

  • Avoid tanning for 24 hours after your wax. Tanning after a wax can cause irritation and even burns.

  • EXFOLIATE! At least 2-3 times a week.

  • If you are prone to bumps or ingrown hairs, I suggest using an antimicrobial treatment such as Finipil or a chemical exfoliant like Serious Serum.  Scrubie Finishing Salts and exfoliation gloves are also great tools in the fight against ingrown hairs.

  • Keep it up! Wax maintenance is easier and less painful. I recommend booking every 5-6 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I need to grow out my hair?

The longer the better! Your hair should be long enough to lay down or roughly 2-3 weeks of growth. It may seem like a long time, but the wax needs something to grab on to! We may have to reschedule your appointment if your hair is too short. Keep this in mind when booking before events such as weddings and vacations.

How long will my wax last? Will I be totally smooth after one wax?

Hair is an amazing thing! While one hair is fully grown and ready to shed, another is making its way up the follicle to replace it and yet another hair is being born at the base of the follicle continuing the cycle. The regeneration cycle averages out to be about every five weeks. For the best example of this, take a look at your arm hair. You will notice that some follicles have two or even three hairs. One of those hairs is ready to fall out and be replaced. That being said, it may take a few visits to achieve the smoothest product. It is common to see “shorties” after your first wax as that hair was under the surface when you received your treatment. Once you get a maintenance schedule going, you will see less hair and have longer periods of smoothness. Remember, everyone is different and results may vary.

I am pregnant. Can I still wax?

Congrats on your new addition and yes I can wax you! Please note that hormonal changes may cause increased sensitivity during your treatments. As always, please consult your physician before your service. I will make you as comfortable as possible throughout your time here.

Will waxing make my hair thicker? How about darker?

On the contrary! Prolonged waxing can actually damage the hair follicles resulting in finer and more sparse regrowth. Waxing cannot change the pigment of your hair.

Will I be red after my service?

Most clients show some reaction after a wax service. It can range from slightly pink skin to some swelling to little red spots where the hair was pulled out. Typically all these signs go away overnight. If you are unsure of how you will react to a waxing treatment then I recommend you come in for a patch test 24-48 hours before your desired appointment. A patch test can help determine how you will react to waxing.

One last note:

With waxing, there is always a possibility of irritation, rashes, or minor bumps, especially on those with super-sensitive skin. Over-the-counter remedies such as aloe vera gel or hydrocortisone will help treat most of these problems. If you experience any reaction that concerns you, please contact your dermatologist immediately.
